How We Help

What we are & how we do it

  • We speak to businesses in the Town of Stony Plain and area who may be interested in having a young person volunteer for them. Youth who are referred to us are then given the contact information of a business of the young person’s choice. For example, a youth who wants to work with animals is provided the owner’s contact information of a dog grooming salon, or a dog-walking business.

Volunteering can help grow a business by providing opportunities for networking and building relationships with potential customers, clients and partners. It can also help businesses develop a good reputation and visibility in the community, leading to more customers and clients.
  • For those youth wanting to earn money and are either too young to be employed or cannot obtain employment, our HR businessman encourages youth to be entrepreneurs and solopreneurs. We have purchased and delivered lawnmowers to youth who have expressed interest in lawn maintenance in their community. We have also taught youth how to detail vehicles, and purchased compact vacuums and other supplies so they can serve others on their own.
  • Sports and activities are also offered to participating youth, for example we have provided bikes, helmets, locks, longboards, gym memberships, and Sportchek gift cards to purchase required clothing.

This initiative keeps youth busy during after school hours and on weekends, and will hopefully lead to gainful employment in areas of the youth's desire, encourage businesses to hire local youth when both are ready, and keeps youth healthy by engaging them in sports and activities of their choice.

Why we are doing it

So many reasons! We CARE about our youth! Mentoring is important! Hands-on learning is exciting and rewarding! Stony Plain Youth are having a hard time finding jobs in Stony Plain. When youth, as young as 12, have the opportunity to shadow in career fields of their interest, it can plant strong seeds to nourish their dreams. It can also turn them to new directions or career paths that they never thought about. Subsequently, shadowing in businesses can encourage youth to consider college or university, while working in a trade or business that interests them. Entrepreneurial and solopreneurial skills are fantastic to learn at a young age.

Benefits of belonging

  1. Real-life experience
